5 Mistakes You're Making Before your Boudoir Shoot
If you have ever considered booking a boudoir shoot, you know that there are a million different things that run through your mind. From what to wear to what facial expressions you should make and so many things in between. What we don’t usually think about is things that we don’t do. Here’s a list of five common things that are overlooked when preparing for a boudoir session, but are SO important!
Here are five mistakes you should avoid making prior to your boudoir shoot:
1. Not resting leading up to your shoot.
Not getting full rest in the days before your shoot can result in images that are a little lackluster. Dark circles will be enhanced, fine lines will be deepened, and overall your skin will have a sallow and tired appearance. Getting a good night’s sleep will help brighten your complexion and reduce puffy eyes.
2. Not eating the night before and morning of your shoot.
Many women think starving themselves before their shoot will make them look thinner, and that’s just not the case. Not eating won’t only affect your energy levels, but it will affect your attitude as well. The last thing you want is to look hangry in your final images. If you’re concerned about bloating, eat something light but nutritious, like fruits, vegetables, and lean protein.
3. Not drinking enough water in the days before your shoot.
Being dehydrated can have a similar effect as not sleeping enough, and can really wreak havoc on your skin. Skin will appear heavy, dry, and any fine lines will be enhanced. Be sure to drink the appropriate amount of water for your body weight in the days leading up to your shoot so you’re fresh faced and glowing.
4. Wearing tight fitting clothing to your session.
Jeans, elastic waistbands, even hair ties on your wrist can leave red indentations on your skin. Try to keep this in mind when you’re getting dressed to come to the studio, and instead grab looser fitting clothing and perhaps even skip the bra that morning.
5. Getting a spray tan.
Even if you spray tan regularly, do not get a spray tan in the days leading to your boudoir shoot. No matter how excellent the tanning solution is or how great it looks in person, it will not come off that way in your images. Spray tans (and other tanning products) are notorious for clinging to drier areas of your skin, like your knees, ankles, and wrists. It also tends to wear off on the hands, feet, and face before the rest of your body, creating a very uneven looking skin tone contrast. All areas will be highly visible in your photographs, and are typically too contrasting to properly edit and smooth out.
